Professor Maze’s main responsibility is the effective development and management of Clinicenta’s medical advisory structure, through Associate Medical Directors, UK Clinical Advisers and University Health Network, Toronto. He oversees effective medical recruitment processes, manages a credential process to ensure individual clinicians only undertake procedures for which they are appropriately experienced, as well as ensuring appropriate clinical supervision is provided where required, appraisals, monitoring and access to CPD. He is also chair of the Clinical Governance Board.
Mervyn’s work has been recognised by many of his peers and to date he has received Fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2003, he received the Excellence in Research Award from the American Society of Anaesthesiology.
Since moving back to the UK in 1999, Mervyn has been and continues to be a key figure at both the Imperial College London and the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust Hospital. Within the hospital he holds the positions of the Sir Ivan Magill Chair of Anaesthesia, Director of Research and the Campus Dean. He was the lead figure in installing the first anaesthetic simulator in London, which is now a standard requirement for all anaesthetic trainees.
Mervyn has rejuvenated the department of anaesthetics at the Imperial College London undertaking key management roles within the faculty. Today he is the Head of Division of Surgery, Oncology, Reproductive Biology and Anaesthetics.
Prior to this, he enjoyed a distinguished career of 23 years at Stanford University, America with a significant track record in medical research.
